Cai reaches the finals of the 2019 BBC Radio 2 Young Choristers of the Year competition

Cai has been chosen as one of four boy choristers from across the UK to perform in the prestigious 2019 BBC Radio 2 Young Choristers of the Year competition.

Dan Thornburn, headmaster of Edgeborough school where Cai is a music scholar, said of the news: "All of us at Edgeborough were delighted to hear that Cai is through to the finals. Not only is he a special talent but he has worked so hard, along with those teachers and choristers around him, to get to where he is now - he deserves every success. I am sure he will wow the judges and audience alike!"

Speaking about Cai’s achievements, Rob Lewis, director of music at St Thomas’ and Cai’s singing teacher, said:

I’m delighted that Cai’s prodigious talent has been recognised in this way.  He is a great ambassador for the choristership, energy and talent of all our choristers, who receive a wonderful musical education here at St. Thomas-on-The Bourne!

As a Parish Church, it is wonderful to know that we can compete with cathedral choristers from across the U.K. with our high musical standards.  Whether it’s singing at services and concerts, making recordings for television, or taking part in international tours (the choir is off to Rome next summer), a choristership is a hugely beneficial all-round education for a young person which I would recommend to any child with a love of singing!

You can hear him perform Suo-Gan and O Holy Night on Sunday 22nd December on BBC Radio 2.
